Transfiguration's Catechetical Ministry believes that we all share in Jesus' own mission of proclaiming the Reign of God. Catechesis is that activity which enables faith to become living, conscious, and active through the light of instruction - especially sharing God's Word in Scripture and sharing the Tradition of the Catholic Church. Catechesis is a lifelong process for each individual as well as the work of the entire Catholic community.

At Transfiguration, our catechetical process seeks to open our children and youth to the discovery of the goodness and beauty of God as reflected in their world, and help them to experience this world within the Catholic Christian Community. It seeks to help them grow further in their faith, their understanding of our Catholic tradition, our unity in Christ and the many gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Catechetical Ministry Catechists:
Our volunteer catechists are people who have answered a call to minister to our children and youth and who have prepared themselves in a variety of ways to serve in this ministry. Above all, they are people for whom faith is important enough to share. They help the children, youth and one another to build and strengthen their relationship with Jesus and the Church. Catechists do this by proclaiming the Word, building a sense of community, leading to prayer and worship, encouraging loving service to others and through the example of their own lives. To become a catechist, please call Paula Ramos, Pastoral Associate, at (408) 266-2743.

Liturgy of the Word for Children
LTWC
is a special celebration of the Word created in accordance with the Directory of Masses with Children. It is "lectionary-based" for children ages 5-12 yrs. attending Mass with their prarents/families.

NO REGISTRATION OR COST IS REQUIRED!!

LTWC is designed to include children in the liturgy and create a sense of belonging...to create a prayerful celebration simple enough that it's message will be meaningful for them. The Children's Liturgy of the Word is meant to be a prayerful listening and response to Scripture...a means for the children's deeper involvement in the Mass because it is an offering on their level of understanding. In addition, it allows children to experience liturgy through ritual activity (gestures, listening, responding, sharing, standing, processing).

Liturgy of the Word for Children, while focused on God's Presence in children's lives, allows respect for and understanding of children's loving relationship with God and a prayerfulness from the children's point of view.

For further information or if you have any questions, please call Paula Ramos, Pastoral Associate at 266-2743.

Generations of Faith (Faith formation and Education for all ages) :
Faith formation for children, youth and adults is offered monthly to the whole parish community. It integrates home and parish into a comprehensive program that embraces all ages and promotes faith at home, and participation in church life.

This year and next (2006 and 2007) we are focusing on the "Church Year Feasts and Seasons," with sessions held once per month from October, 2006 to June, 2007. The sessions will be held on the last Wednesday of the month from 5:45 pm to 8:15 pm. These sessions include dinner. Program registration and fees are required. For information, please call Paula Ramos, Pastoral Associate at 408-266-2743.

Sacramental Preparation Program:
Preparing for the Sacraments (First Reconciliation, Confirmation and First Eucharist) is a family oriented two year process. We are one of four parishes in this diocese that has introduced the Restored Sequence of sacraments May 1, 1999: the restored order being Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist.

This important step in the initiation of children involves sessions for children, parents, home sessions and family celebrations. Sessions are also available for older children who would like to prepare for the sacraments. For more information, please contact Paula Ramos, Pastoral Associate at (408) 266-2743.

Youth Ministry (grades 7-12):
The youth ministry program (grades 7-12) includes Scripture, prayer, liturgy, service projects, discussion groups, and occational social activities. Sessions are held every Wednesday evening from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm. For more information, please call Paula Ramos at (408) 266-2743.
