The Church of the Transfiguration was established on October 20, 1965, with Rev. Arthur W. Hofmann as pastor. The first meeting with parishioners was held at St. Christopher Parish hall on November 3rd. The first Masses were celebrated at John Muir school on Sunday, November 7th and were continued at Presentation High School. On July 3rd, 1966, the first Mass was celebrated in the portable building, then known as the 'temporary church'.

The first Parish Council was elected in May 1966. The parish decided that an 8 room school would be the first permanent building to be used as the church until a permanent church could be built. Groundbreaking was in January 1967, and in June the bulletin stated: "The days of the folding chairs are over". On September 10, 1967, the first Mass was celebrated in the building known as 'The Church Building' for many years.

The first blood drive was in December 1968, and the first annual golf tournament was on September 21, 1969. Transfiguration joined FISH in 1971. The special children's Mass on Christmas Eve began in 1973, Genesis II came to the parish in 1979, followed by Renew in 1983.

Rev. William C. Leininger became pastor in June, 1981, and formed a Pastoral Team. The 1984 parish assemblies recommended building new facilities. Parish land was sold to help finance this project and by December 1986, the portable building, which was used as the Religious Education offices and the meeting hall, were gone. Now it was back to using folding chairs and the same portable altar with which the parish began. The Worship center foundation was poured in March 1987 and by August the shape of the roof could be seen, reminding the community of the mountains where the transfiguration of Jesus took place. Mount Tabor Hall was named in October. On Saturday, February 27, 1988, the first Mass was celebrated in the new Worship Center. Transfiguration Catholic Community celebrated the dedication of its new Worship Center and Altar on August 6, 1988, the Feast of the Transfiguration.

Rev. George A. Aranha became our third pastor on July 1, 1997. A new pastoral staff was gradually established to replace the outgoing pastoral team. One of the main goals of the new administration was to increase Sunday participation at all Masses. Within three years we had experienced an increase of 50% in parishioner Sunday participation, with substantial increases also in children and families involved in Catechetical Ministry programs. Youth Ministry for High School was started in October 1997. 'Faith Alive', an ongoing all year round process of faith formation for adults was launched in the Easter season of 1998, offering faith fundamentals, Shared Scripture Study, Retreats and Advent and Lent series. The Catechumenate, as our own parish process, was reestablished in November, 1997. On Pentecost Sunday, 1998, we had a Discernment Day, introducing our new parish Mission Statement. With the beginning of the new year, 1999, we formed a Pastoral Leadership Community, with members representing the major ministries and also the parish at large to replace the former parish community council. A brand new parish picture directory was published in April, 1999. The stewardship program has been intensified with a new envelope system mailed directly every month to our parishioners. Our Worship Center narthex has clear signs of the various ministries and programs we offer in the parish. Our gift shop was moved to the narthex in September, 1998 to be more accessible to all our parishioners and visitors. Our Parish Website, created by our parishioner Webmaster, Ann Comey, was launched in 1999.

Rev. Walter M. McMahon became our fourth pastor on July 1, 2002.

We have tried to encourage and strengthen prayer and faith sharing not only in the many flourishing small faith communities of our parish, but also during the Sunday gatherings of the larger community. We do this consistently in order to realize our vision, to make Transfiguration into a Community of Communities.
